In the city of Iesaki, southern Japan, the air temperature was 40,2 degrees Celsius today, which is the highest temperature measured in June, the Meteorological Service said.

Today's air temperature broke the previous record in Japan, when on June 24, 2011, 39,8 degrees Celsius were measured.

The high temperature is caused by a strong Pacific anticyclone with cloudless weather.
