A state agency to combat cyber threats will be set up in Italy
Italy will set up a government cyber security agency to combat the growing number of such attacks and will especially oppose threats from Russia, the French newspaper Le Figaro reported. The new agency will report directly to the prime minister, and its ranks will be filled by about 300 people.
As early as May 25, during a summit in Brussels, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi spoke about the importance of strengthening cyber security at both European and national levels.
"The interference (from Russia) in espionage and network manipulation has reached a really alarming level," the newspaper recalled.
The creation of a new National Cyber Security Agency was announced the same day that Mario Draghi spoke with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.
One of the main tasks of the new organization will be to protect national interests and confront cyber threats, strengthen the security of information and communication systems and develop production, technological and scientific competencies in this field. Draghi, who came to power in February, is already reorganizing Italy's intelligence services.
