In Greece, a record number of concessions for beaches were issued, as many as 1650
In Greece this summer, the number of concessions issued to beach hotels reached a record 1.650, far more than the Finance Ministry's initial estimate of 1.200 concessions.
The number of complaints against hotels that violate the terms of the concessions or by expanding their work to areas not covered by the terms of the concession or by changing the nature of their business has increased, Kathimerini writes.
In extreme cases, hotels that have received the right to have a food stand on the public beach have built cafes.
As a result, state and local governments conducted 10.000 inspections in July alone.
The Greek Ministry of Finance announced that more than 1.100 economic entities have been controlled, and the fines have so far exceeded 1,15 million euros.
