Only in the capital of Germany, Berlin, 2.200 criminal charges have been filed this year against climate activists, who have already been fined 600, said Berlin Police Chief Barbara Slovik.

Activists have blocked the streets of Berlin 276 times since mid-January. By mid-December, 42 other actions by activists took place, some of which are considered criminal acts, she told the DPA agency.

Slovik adds, because of the radical protests, the police spent 220.000 additional working hours on the street.

The group "Last Generation" started with blockades in the second half of January this year, and since October this group of radical activists has expanded its activities throughout Germany. According to Slovik, there are about 500 people from Berlin in that group.
