A state of emergency at the "federal level" has been declared in the Belgorod region, the Russian Minister of Emergency Situations, Alexander Kurenkov, announced today.

- I propose that the emergency situation that arose in the Belgorod region be classified as an emergency at the federal level and that a federal level of response be established - he said after today's extraordinary session of the government's Commission for Prevention and Response in Emergency Situations.

As he stated, the situation in the region remains difficult and tense, Russian media reports.

In the attacks of the Ukrainian armed forces in the Belgorod region in recent days, residential buildings and infrastructure were damaged, and there were dead and injured.

The introduction of the state of emergency regime at the federal level allows for a simpler way to make decisions on the distribution of material assistance to people from the federal budget, to finance activities for housing people, to provide them with everything they need in temporary housing, as well as quickly taking action measures aimed at additional protection of citizens.

In the event of a federal emergency, victims are eligible for financial assistance.

On August 9, the Russian federal authorities declared a state of emergency in the Kursk region as well, following the attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
