Parents accused of manslaughter on behalf of their underage son who killed four high school students in the state of Michigan are on the run, and police are looking for them.

It is not yet known where they are, although their lawyers have said they will turn themselves in to police.

James and Jennifer Cramble are wanted by local and federal police, the Michigan Local Police Chief said today.

The couple's lawyers say they are not on the run, adding that they fled for security reasons immediately after the shooting in which their son Ethan killed four students.

- They are returning to the region to surrender. They do not run away from the authorities, as the media report, say lawyers.

Cramble's car was found in Detroit, about 60 miles (XNUMX km) from the high school where the shooting took place.

James and Jennifer Crumble were charged with four counts yesterday, three days after their 15-year-old son opened fire on a high school in Oxford, about 60 miles (XNUMX km) from Detroit, killing four students and wounding seven others.

James Crumbley took Ethan with him when he bought the gun Ethan had brought to school four days before the attack, prosecutors said.

When he heard reports of a shooting at the school, James Cramble immediately returned home from work to look for the gun, but did not find it. Crumble then called police and said he suspected his son was the attacker at the school.

Charges are rarely filed against parents for school shootings. Unlike some states, Michigan law does not require gun owners to keep their guns in a safe place out of the reach of children.
