If the amendments to the law receive a two-thirds majority, then there will be no early elections for mayors in the municipalities of Aerodrom, Gostivar and Saraj after Timcho Mutsunski and Arben Taravari became ministers in the Government of Hristijan Mickoski, and Blerim Bejeti became an MP.

This afternoon, the ruling majority submitted to the Parliament the proposed amendments to the Law on Local Self-Government following a shortened procedure. Amendments to the law should allow for no elections for a new mayor if there are less than 12 months until the regular elections. This will mean that in the municipalities in which the mayors who were elected as deputies or ministers in the last parliamentary elections, early local elections for mayors will not be held, but the municipalities will be managed by acting mayors.

According to the explanation, it is a transitional solution that will be valid only until the upcoming local elections, which should be held in October 2025.

- Article 4 regulates a transitional solution for the procedure for announcing new elections for the mayor, due to the occurrence of one of the cases of termination of the mayor's mandate by force of law until the holding of the first regular elections for members of the councils of the municipalities and the Council of the City of Skopje , for the election of the mayor of a municipality and the mayor of the City of Skopje after the entry into force of this law. Bearing in mind that there are less than 12 months until the announcement of new regular local elections and starting from the best interest of the citizen, the principle of economy and economic situation in the country, the proposed legal solutions will achieve the goal for which this draft law was proposed - all says in the proposed amendments to the Law.

The authorities do not reveal whether they have already secured a two-thirds majority, as well as Badenter's majority, because it is a systemic law. The majority say that they hope to secure a double and two-thirds majority by the time of the vote.

If VMRO-DPMNE and Vredi do not convince DUI to support the law, then according to the current law, in Airport, Saraj and in Gostivar extraordinary elections should be held in November or December for the election of mayors. According to the Electoral Code, early mayoral elections will not be called if the regular mayoral elections are less than six months away, which is not the case now, since the regular local elections are in October 2025.

The government announced the adoption of the amendments to the Law on Local Government even before the formation of the new government. Mickoski then confirmed that if they secure support from the opposition, they will submit the proposal after the formation of the government cabinet. The proposed amendments were submitted almost three months after the formation of the Government.

The proposers of the law are the coordinators of the parliamentary groups of Vredi, VMRO-DPMNE and ZNAM, Halil Snopce, Nikola Micevski and Goran Karapejovski.
