Is this power or a fair?

In normal democracies, in addition to criminal, material and moral responsibility for public office holders, there is something called political responsibility - a term unknown to our endemic type of politicians of any provenance or nationality.

A recent public opinion poll organized by MCIC and TV Telma, published before the end of 2020, showed that the support that citizens give to the largest political parties in the country - SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE is at an all-time low and is below 20 percent, with a slight lead of the ruling SDSM of only 0,5 percent (which is within the statistical error). What is even more interesting is the fact that the percentage of citizens who said they would not go to the polls, annul their ballot or did not say who they would vote for, is greater than the sum of the percentages that these parties received together. This shows that the citizens no longer trust either the government or the opposition and the number of those citizens is greater than the number of those who would vote for these two parties. This leads to the conclusion that dissatisfied citizens are already the majority in our country.

The reason for this poll was the 100 days since the formation of the second government of Zoran Zaev (who by the way is the most popular politician in the country, but it is a small consolation for him given the fact that the second most popular politician is Dimitar Apasiev, the leader of the Left) . Consequently, those who should be most concerned with the results of the survey are the representatives of the Government of the RSM.

MN: Political irresponsibility

The first question they should ask themselves is: How for a period of less than one term did they manage to melt the great support of the citizens that culminated in the Local Elections in 2017 in which SDSM achieved a convincing victory? If you remember, the basic slogan of that time was: "Not everyone is the same"! And that was true, at the beginning SDSM showed care for the citizens and made several decisions that it promised before the elections, such as the abolition of the broadcasting fee and the introduction of a cheap electricity tariff. However, the main political capital of Zaev and his government was the historic entry of RSM into NATO that took place on March 27, 2020.

But while the benefits of NATO membership have been huge, it has not been enough to keep the scales on the side of those who support the government for long. The large number of unfulfilled promises that the Prime Minister, in his style, gives where he will reach and to whom he will reach, the bad personnel policy and the innate arrogance of SDSM while in power, slowly but surely began to move the scales in the direction of the cup where negative thinking about the work of the Government prevails.

Space does not allow to analyze all the bad decisions of the last two Macedonian governments (this may require a feuilleton), so I will return briefly to just a few recent and still current moments. The problem with our greatest historical and cultural heritage - the city of Ohrid, culminates in the latest, so far most extensive, UNESCO report, which lists the many shortcomings that threaten the status of Ohrid as part of the World Cultural Heritage. The way the governments of SDSM and DUI have treated and still treat this problem indicates that there is an elementary inability to put an end to the rampage of local construction and political power.

The pompous statements made by the former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs that a great success has been achieved by the fact that the Government managed to keep Ohrid on the UNESCO list, only further increased the revolt of the citizens who see every day that in this field are not taken almost no measures to improve the situation. The said UNESCO report is just a confirmation of that.

I would not be surprised if in the daily newspapers in the country I read an advertisement with the following content: “Premises for holding birthday celebrations owned by RSM are for rent. Price: 500 euros for the organizer, 20 euros for each guest. Government of RSM ". Closing this scandal so that the participants in the celebration of the birthday of the DUI leader - Ali Ahmeti will pay a certain penalty for violating the regulations and according to the old saying "both the wolf is full and the sheep are numbered" will continue as if nothing had happened. the least is underestimation of the common sense of the citizens.

In normal democracies, in addition to criminal, material, and moral responsibility for public office holders, there is also something called POLITICAL RESPONSIBILITY - a term unknown to our endemic type of politicians of any provenance or nationality. It was not so long ago that a minister from a member state of the European Union resigned because he had paid for a private dinner or lunch with his wife with an official card. In our country, the only ones who dared to behave with European dignity were Pavle Bogoevski and Dragan Spasov Dac (neither politicians).

The birthday party was just part of an even bigger scandal with the opening of the new building of the Ministry of Political System. At a time when the health system in the country is struggling to overcome the pandemic of the covid-19 virus, and the basic needs of health workers are provided by donations, the state administration is opening luxury facilities worth tens of millions of euros. This simply reminds me of a sentence uttered by a former finance minister and godfather, who said in a telephone conversation: "We are crazy, we spend on chocolate and we have no bread."

MN: Jump into the abyss

The series of statements and actions of the SCPC, which referred to a series of cases related to abuse by public office holders, were vaguely followed in public.

These are just some of the examples why the slogan "Not everyone is the same" is slowly losing its meaning, just as SDSM is losing the trust of the citizens. Fortunately for the Government, this is happening in the first 100 days of its formation and if this warning to the citizens is taken seriously, which is not the first (remember that the difference between the votes received by SDSM compared to those received by VMRO-DPMNE in the last early parliamentary elections were only about 8.000 votes) there is enough time to take action that will finally benefit the citizens.

My opinion is that the biggest responsibility in this situation falls on Ljupчоo Nikolovski, the closest associate of the Prime Minister, who has undertaken a very serious work to fight corruption, primarily in his ranks. Well, perhaps the first serious work that the Deputy Prime Minister would take on to fight corruption and crime, sustainable development and human resources, is to take a more serious look at the work of the SCPC and the actions they have taken against past and present officials. This also refers to the numerous reports of the State Audit Office, related to the bad governance and management of citizens' money.

That, dealing with corruption and crime in their ranks, as well as the already forgotten dealing with crime of the former government of Nikola Gruevski, will be the most important criteria that citizens will take into account when deciding next time whether and for whom they would vote. in the next elections. If success is achieved here, then we can talk about "quantum jumps" in a positive direction, otherwise, if we continue as before, the jump will be in the abyss.
