The government of Kosovo allocated 305.710 euros to support Ukrainian and Afghan journalists staying in Kosovo. The request for the allocation of these budget funds was sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora.

Finance Minister Hekuran Murati said the funds will be taken from the contingency category.

"We have allocated over 305 thousand and 710 euros to support Ukrainian and Afghan journalists who are taken care of in Kosovo.
The funds are taken from the contingency category and are transferred to the Ministry of Interior in Kosovo. This is the decision that allows the stay of Ukrainian and Afghan journalists to be covered for this year as well," said Murati.

Some Ukrainian journalists who were forced to leave their country after the Russian invasion are now living in Pristina under the "Journalists in Kosovo Residency" program.

This program is funded by the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and covers living, salary and office expenses for up to six months to enable Ukrainian journalists to work remotely.

Meanwhile, in December 2022, the Government of Kosovo approved a budget of 30.000 euros for the accommodation of Afghan journalists. The executive authority announced that Kosovo will receive five journalists from Afghanistan and they will be able to stay in the country for two years.
