In the gusts of typhoon Yagi in Vietnam, 143 people died, and 58 are missing, local authorities announced today.

Heavy rains have caused widespread destruction in several regions of Vietnam, destroying houses and damaging infrastructure, Vietnamese media reported. Yesterday, the authorities launched a campaign to collect donations for those affected, and almost 17 million dollars were collected immediately after the launch of the initiative.

The Vietnamese government allocated 200 tons of rice from national reserves and additional funds to 14 affected provinces to help local people as they work to repair damage, conduct search and rescue operations and restore essential services.
Typhoon Yagi is the strongest tropical storm in Asia this year with recorded maximum winds of 245 kilometers per hour. It killed at least 16 people in the Philippines and two in China.
