The British government is proposing that from 2027 no one under the age of 18 can smoke, the country is aiming to introduce a complete ban on smoking cigarettes, including e-cigarettes for everyone.

If this law passes, Britain will become the first country to introduce one of the strictest anti-smoking measures in the world, says Free Press Jeanetta Skerlev, correspondent and columnist from London.

- If this law is adopted, Great Britain will go down in history as the first country that created the first non-disruptive generation in modern society. If all goes as planned Prime Minister Rishi Sunak wants to ban smoking altogether. Our prime ministers here are all famous for something, some for bad and some for good. Sunak obviously wants to be known and leave a mark in history that he banned smoking in Great Britain and created the first generation of non-smokers - says Skerlev.

With this decision, everyone who was born after January 1, 2009 will not be allowed to light a cigarette, adds Skerlev.

Historically no smoking

The goal is to improve people's health, but analogously to that, this legal regulation also provides for stabilization of the country's economy.

- Experts say that 17 billion are lost annually due to various diseases due to smoking. All this affects the economy and the health system, which is already burdened, and it would be even more so if people continued to smoke - said Skerlev.

She explains that high penalties are foreseen in the event that the Parliament adopts this proposed law for both manufacturers and traders, but also for smokers if they are caught.
