VIDEO INTERVIEW | Up close and personal with Elena Stavreska and Slavcho Stojanov (musicians): "Devil's Woman" in "Moral" - a story
More than six years since the last gig, the Skopje hard-rock group "Moral" performed at "Pivoland". This was no ordinary performance by the band led by the tireless Slavco Stojanov. This was the baptism of fire for the new singer Elena Stavreska.
It's not easy to become part of a band that is living its new youth after six years. But he did it masterfully Elena Stavreska, who as a vocalist comes to "Morality", after the sudden departure into eternity of the legendary Vlatko Ilievski in the 2018nd.
For the new beginning of the group "Moral", the front man of the band Slavcho Stojanov and the new vocalist Elena Stavreska were guests in the studio of "Sloboden Pechat".
Elena is a painter by profession, she makes jewelry from filigree, she is also in the field of martial arts (eastern martial arts). She is a fan of heavy metal, and has been a member of several cover bands.
- Last year we were contacted about "Pivoland", but we had to cancel for justified reasons. This year the choice was Elena because I have known her for ten years as a singer who fascinated me singing "Metallica" or something similar - reveals Slavcho about the beginning of the story. Elena complements…
– That's the music I grew up with. At the age of 13, I found myself in that expression - I am constantly in those waters, heavy metal, industrial, gothic, post-punk... - says Elena.
Elena's vocal capabilities were the best recommendation for her to join the famous Macedonian band.
- Elena was the choice also because she, as a girl, will not remind us of Vlatko. No one will compare her with him. This is a different story. Baška sings our songs from a high register with ease and gives them another dimension - Slavco is decisive.
Before becoming a member, Elena was a fan of the group "Moral". He knew the songs and felt that he fit in well stylistically. That's her sensibility, though.
– My favorite song from the "Moral" repertoire is "Devil's Woman"! Sose text, sose everything! – Elena reveals to us.
"Devil woman" in "Morality" - for a story, it doesn't sound bad at all.
The "Pivoland" gig went beyond expectations, which is an additional wind behind the team. There was no trepidation for Elena, and the audience motivated her further. That is why their plans are ambitious.
– We want another gig, so let's try to record a song with Elena. We are encouraged by how the audience at "Pivoland" has received us. We haven't performed in six and a half years before, and for this gig we only had two rehearsals. These are some short-term plans, because in our country everything is uncertain in the long term - believes Stojanov.
Slavco is disappointed by the general state in which the local scene is wandering. He remembers the time of former Yugoslavia, when "Moral" took its first steps. And then the main centers were Belgrade, Zagreb and Sarajevo.
– I was in the army with Oliver Mandic. He told me: "You're great, come to Belgrade, and we'll do this." Bregovic told me the same thing. Well, look, Venko Serafimov with "Concord", what an album they had, so they were told the same thing: "Move to Zagreb", but we were all young, students, dad, mom... - Slavco is nostalgic.
Elena, speaking about the new songs, wants time to show the way naturally, without forcing. We should not doubt her creativity.
Finally, Elena and Slavco revealed to us that next year they would like to do a concert in honor of the prematurely deceased Vlatko Ilievski. Vlatko deserved something like that a long time ago.
- I think he is a little forgotten in the Macedonian pop-rock story. He also had a successful solo career, but if we can't do it with those people who helped him then, even with the songs from "Moral", Stojanov revealed to us at the end of the conversation.
