VIDEO INTERVIEW | Michal Witt: I doubt that the Government has the capacity to implement the constitutional amendments
The ruling VMRO-DPMNE party currently lacks the motivation to implement the constitutional amendments that are necessary to continue the European integration path, but are indicated as crucial by the European Commission in the latest report on the country's progress. This is because, on the one hand, the Government does not have the capacity to implement the constitutional amendments, but on the other hand, there is a lack of clear political impulse from America and the EU that Macedonia should really enter the Union. He emphasized this among other things Michael Witt professor at the "Metropolitan" University in Prague.
- One thing is clear that there is nothing new in the new EC report regarding the country's progress towards the EU. But if we want to see why this is so, we should first analyze the things that are happening inside the Union. One picture of the situation in the EU is that it remains to be seen what is really the priority for Berlin or Paris at the moment when it comes to enlargement. And the other, which was delivered in terms of reforms by Macedonia. Taking into account these situations at home, the only message that comes from Brussels for the country when it comes to enlargement remains for the time being "take it or leave it" – Professor Witt points out, explaining that the constitutional amendments are currently the only condition for the release of the negotiation process with the Union. .
The expert on policy analysis with a focus on the Western Balkans, university professor Vit from the Czech Republic, commenting on the proposal in the domestic public to postpone the procedure of the constitutional amendments, i.e. to insert the Bulgarians into the Constitution when the country would sign the agreement with the European Union, says that unfortunately that it is not currently on the negotiating table.
- Unfortunately, at the moment we do not have a new French proposal. It was a momentum and now I think it is impossible to discuss the same problem in the EU. Once again, I repeat that the Government is not able to politicize both at home and abroad on this issue - said Vit.
