VIDEO INTERVIEW | Magdinchev: It's time for Lazarov's boys to give what the sports public expects

"It is time for the Macedonian national team to give what the sports public expects at this world championship," says handball coach Risto Magdinchev on the morning show. Free Press ahead of Macedonia's opening match at the Handball World Cup, which will face Hungary tonight at 20:30 PM.

"At every World Cup or championship, a good result is expected. Especially this national team, which has been given a chance to be rejuvenated. It is time for this World Cup to give what the sports public, the federation and the coach expect. To give an idea of whether this three-year period, while the national team was being built, we are on the right track, and whether in the coming period the national team will produce truly quality results," says Magdinchev.

For the former head coach of the women's handball team, it was a mistake that Macedonia sparred with clubs and less quality national teams during the preparation period.

"We are repeating the same mistakes as in the two previous championships. The national team had no relationship with the media. I'm not saying that all the secrets should be revealed. However, to give a picture of how the national team trains, how it prepares, to give those players a chance to give their opinion, for the public to see how things are done and from such work, results are expected. I am always in favor of quality opponents in the preparation period, and I think that is right. The idea that if we win, regardless of the opponent, we will have positive energy, is not true. After all, we are going to the world championship, we are playing with strong national teams, so the friendly matches must also be with strong opponents," said Magdinchev.

Magdinchev says that the fast game of "Alkaloid" has not yet been transferred to the Macedonian national team, even though most of the players come from the Avtokomanda team.

"So far, the game played by Kire Lazarov's "Alkaloid" has not been transferred to the national team, even though the majority of the players in the national team come from his team. "Alkaloid" plays the best transition game in Macedonia, there is no doubt about that, but so far it has not been transferred to the national team. Handball is a fast game, without transition there is no progress for the team. Why not score an easy goal from transition, but instead struggle with a slow attack. The slow game has been forgotten," says Magdinchev.

When asked which player he thinks will stand out at the World Cup, Magdinchev singled out Kuzmanovski, who will finally have the role of leader in the national team.

"Filip Kuzmanovski has emerged as a leader. He is playing in good form in both the Champions League and the domestic championship. I think Marko Mitev will bounce back. He is a center back that every national team wants. He is quite intelligent, athletic, takes risks, and has all the elements to be a great player. He will have the opportunity to show himself on a big stage at this World Cup, where managers, coaches, and clubs will be watching him. The Atanasijevic brothers are also quite good," Magdinchev believes.

The Macedonian handball team is in Group D along with tonight's opponent Hungary, as well as the Netherlands and Guinea.
