VIDEO POLL | Should athletes advertise betting?
Goran Pandev, Kire Lazarov, Idze... are some of the athletes who advertise betting shops and banks for fast loans. For filming these commercials, they honestly received an appropriate fee for the work done. The company that hired them "uses" their recognizable character to make it easier to reach the general public, a marketing trick that is not unknown. Through numerous advertisements of global brands, it has been proven that a famous person sells more easily. Athletes advertise betting shops, is there anything wrong with that or not? Free Press asked the citizens if top sportsmen, names that represent one's idols and represent an example for future generations, should be found in this type of advertisement? What impact does portraying them in this way have on society?
- It's their job, if they believe in what they are selling, then let them film, why not - says a bystander.
According to one gentleman, it is not right for top athletes to offer the public quick loans or make them go to a betting shop, it has a bad effect on young people.
- This is unimaginable to me, how can a top athlete, the best scorer at the World Cup who advertised Macedonia, now offer quick loans. In this way he destroys his own reputation. I don't know how much money they offered him for that ad, but no amount of money can explain to me how he accepted to record such a thing, I believe that he earned enough in his career not to accept such an ad - says our interlocutor.
According to a young woman from Skopje, there is nothing terrible in these advertisements.
- It is their right to advertise, I don't see anything wrong with that - she said.
An elderly lady said there was nothing sporting about it:
– What kind of sportsmen are they, in an easy way to quick money, it is not right to sell wind and fog.
Another resident of Skopje says that there are two sides.
- If we look democratically, yes, they can film, but if we look systemically for the state and for the children, then no way - he answered categorically.
The Minister of Sports, Borko Ristovski, announced that all those athletes who receive state aid and advertise casinos and betting shops will have the aid they receive from the state stopped. The majority of our respondents welcome this decision.
- It is an excellent move by the minister, well done for this decision - said a resident of Skopje.
