LIVE VIDEO: Mass protests in Turkey, Erdogan calls them "terror on the streets"

There are massive protests in Turkey tonight. Erdogan also made a statement. "Turkey will not succumb to terror on the streets," Erdogan said, assessing that the protests called by the opposition will end in a dead end.

"We will not tolerate any disturbance of public order and peace," he added.

Otherwise, Ozgur Ozel, the leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP), the largest opposition party in the country, to which Imamoglu belongs, called on Turks to come out today at 20:30 p.m. local time, despite threats from the government.

Protest rallies involving thousands of citizens were held in Istanbul, Ankara and other Turkish cities last night. In total, since Wednesday, the day of the arrest, protests have taken place in 29 of Turkey's 81 provinces.

On Tuesday, authorities imposed a four-day ban on gatherings, but that did not stop citizens from gathering in large numbers on Thursday in front of city hall and police stations, as well as in universities and squares across Turkey.

Smaller-scale incidents occurred late in the afternoon in front of Istanbul's city hall, where students and citizens from every corner of the city gathered, with police resorting to throwing tear gas and using rubber bullets.
