An explosion in a mosque in the northern Afghan province of Badaksha today killed at least 15 people and injured around 50.

The explosion occurred at a mosque in Faizabad, the capital of Badakhshan province, where Taliban officials had gathered for a joint prayer for the slain deputy governor, who died in an explosion on Tuesday, local TV station Tolo News reported.

The information about the number of victims was also confirmed by the administration of the local hospital.

Moazuddin Ahmadi, a local Taliban official, previously confirmed that an explosion had occurred but did not know the number of casualties.

Mawlavi Nisar Ahmad Ahmadi, Deputy Governor of Badakhshan and his driver were killed in an explosion in Faizabad on Tuesday.
