VIDEO| Ukrainian forces shot down a $30 million Sukhoi-50M over the Black Sea
The Ukrainian army shot down a powerful Russian Su-30M fighter jet during an operation in the Black Sea, the Ukrainian military intelligence agency HUR said today.
According to still unconfirmed information, the downing of the plane was carried out with a manual launcher of anti-aircraft missiles, writes "Odessa Journal".
The Russians lost contact with the jet yesterday around five in the morning. About three hours later, they began a search and rescue operation involving An-26 aircraft, as well as Mi-8 and Ka-27 helicopters, Ukrainian sources said.
About seven hours later, they reported to the command a distinctive jet fuel stain detected in the sea, 70 kilometers northwest of Cape Tarkankut, and soon saw the remains of the destroyed Su-30SM, the Ukrainians said.
"Su-30M" is one of the more modern Russian combat aircraft whose price is about 50 million US dollars.
The plane that crashed into the sea belonged to the 43rd Special Regiment of Naval Aviation of the Russian Armed Forces, which is based at the airport in the city of Saka, in occupied Crimea.
