The attack that took place today in Sevastopol is a targeted killing of a Russian officer, organized by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), writes the Kyiv Independent.

The newspaper reported that a car bomb attack had been carried out and that on that occasion Russian naval officer Valery Trankovsky had been killed.

The same source claims that it was an organized murder of the Russian officer carried out by the Ukrainian SBU.

Earlier, the Russian authorities in the occupied Crimea announced that the soldier died after the explosion.

The liquidated Russian navy captain was the chief of staff of the 41st missile ship brigade and "a war criminal who ordered the launch of cruise missiles from the Black Sea at civilian locations in Ukraine," reports the Kyiv Independent.

According to other reports, he died of blood loss after the blast tore off his legs.

The Russian officer was allegedly responsible for the July 2022 rocket attack on the city of Vinnytsia that killed 29 people and injured more than 200.

He also oversaw attacks on Odessa and other cities, which killed many civilians, a source told the Kyiv newspaper.

According to Russian channels, Trankovski had the rank of captain 1st class.

Russian media outlet "Mash" claims that Trankovsky was followed by the Ukrainians for about a week and that an improvised explosive device was planted under the driver's side of his car and detonated remotely.

Several Russian officers who participated in the war against Ukraine were found murdered in Russia or in the territories occupied by Russia throughout the war.

Most recently, Major Dmitry Periukha was killed in the center of Russian-occupied Lugansk after his car exploded on October 18.

Periukha was allegedly involved in war crimes against Ukraine. He served in the 273rd intelligence center of the Armed Forces of Russia.
