(VIDEO) Turkey has tested its most powerful fifth-generation fighter jet

The Turkish Air Force made the first flight with its latest fifth-generation combat aircraft named "KAAN", and its promotion was announced by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan a year ago.

A video of the flight of the new aircraft was also published on the "X" social network.

NATO member Turkey launched the TF-X project in 2016 to produce a national fighter jet. In 2017, the Turkish company "TUSAS" signed a contract worth 125 million dollars with the British company "BAE Systems" for the development of a new generation of combat aircraft.

Turkey now plans to start mass production of domestic aircraft engines. Production is expected to begin in 2028.

The country recently entered into an agreement to purchase 40 F-16 fighter jets and 79 kits to modernize the fighter jets it owns.

Turkey is also interested in buying 40 Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft, which are jointly produced by Germany, Great Britain, Italy and Spain.
