A fire at a major substation near Tokyo, run by East Japan Raivai, has cut off electricity supplies today, forcing the operator to temporarily suspend trains on a number of lines in the Tokyo metropolitan area, the company said.
The power outage affected 236.000 people, and the fire was brought under control and no one was injured, Kyodo writes.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated, and police say the room where the transformers are located inside the station has been destroyed.
