VIDEO | Weighs 272 kg: A huge 72 million-year-old dinosaur skull discovered in Canada
Paleontologists unearthed a pachyrhinosaurus skull weighing as much as 272 kilograms near the town of Grand Prairie in Alberta, Canada.
This huge herbivore roamed the deserts of Alberta 72 million years ago. The skull, which experts have dubbed "Big Sam," is the largest skull found in Pipestone Creek, reports BBC.
Paleontologist Emily Bamforth of the Philip J. Curry" said that in addition to the bones of adults, there are also hundreds of remains of younger people at the site.
She added that the Big Sam specimen was very well preserved because it was found upside down, indicating that the dinosaur was lying on its back when it died.
The adult Pachyrhinosaurus skull is the second herbivorous dinosaur to be excavated from the dense bone bed located 450 kilometers northwest of the city of Edmonton.
