Amhad Idris visited the mortuary yesterday and saw the bodies of his family members.

"My heart is breaking." I didn't think something like this could happen," he said, holding the hand of his deceased grandson.

Idris and his family left their homeland in 2012 to find refuge in Saraqib, which the Syrian army retook in 2020.

"I lost my daughter, my two grandchildren, my father-in-law's family. We are talking about a total of about 25 people. We were running away from the war. See what injustice haunts us and what happened to us. Here we sought a safe haven for us and our children. In the end, fate found us," said Idris, he said "Sky News".

More than 15.800 people died in the earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on Monday, according to a new report released by officials and rescuers. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that the death toll could reach 20.000. More than 53.000 people were injured in Turkey alone.
