The Oscar winner and activist Sean Penn signed a contract for a role in the Ukrainian war film "War through the eyes of animals", with the original title "Vijna ochima tavvi", he writes The Hollywood Reporter.
The feature film is an anthology in nine parts, directed by nine Ukrainian directors, which follows the story of the war in Ukraine through the perspectives of different animals. Miroslav Slaboshpicki, the acclaimed Ukrainian director, will direct the ninth and final segment, in which Sean Penn will play an American sound engineer who happens to witness the outbreak of war when Russian forces invade Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
Penn has been a major activist for Ukraine since the start of the war, who was in Ukraine filming a documentary for Weiss Studios when the war broke out. The film, which he co-directed with Aaron Kaufman, was originally intended as a mocking look at Volodymyr Zelensky, the comedy actor turned president.
However, the film is actually a depiction of his heroic military leadership, and when it premiered on The Berlin Film Festival This year, Penn took the opportunity to call on Western governments to provide more military support to Ukraine.

He was with us during the attack on February 24th and with this documentary he explores the war in Ukraine. "His support is invaluable for us," said Slaboshpicki.
Otherwise, "War through the eyes of animals" is directed by Ukrainian companies "SOTA Cinema Group" и Cleaos Art, Oleg Kohan и Oleksii Makukhin are signed on to produce the film, which is set for release in the winter of 2023-2024.
