VIDEO: The Jahi family lost eight children in a bus accident

Destan Jonuzi, Free Press / Morning Briefing journalist

The saddest part of journalistic work in reporting on such difficult events is conveying the life destinies of the victims. "Free Press" journalist Destan Jonuzi had that difficult task.

- Yesterday there was talk of a number of 20 dead from Studenichani, but the official number is 18, and four of the survivors are from this municipality, says Jonuzi.

One of the most tragic stories is with the Jahi family.

- Free Press was the first media outlet to spread the voice of the Jahi family. It is a family from the village of Morane who lives in Cair. Early in the morning I got in touch with a member of this family, who was actually asking for information from me. A mother with 4 children and a mother with two children were killed, and there were also two granddaughters from that family. I was in contact with a member of that family all day. I received the list of passengers from the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but we decided not to publish it as an editorial office before the institutions did. In the morning I went to the Jahi family and one of them told me that his whole family was burned. Suddenly everyone left the house and only one person was left with me. I asked him where they went, he told me they left for Bulgaria, says Jonuzi.

Part of the family attended the school in Cair.

- Seven are children aged 7 to 12 who died. The total official number from Studenichani is 18 dead, and one part coincides with the municipality of Cair because part of the family lived in Cair but also in Morane, says Jonuzi.

Families are the biggest support for those who have lost loved ones.

- I got in touch with the Jahi family last night. They were returned from Bulgaria but could not receive any information from the institutions. They need moral support. It is practiced by all people regardless of religion and nationality. The pain and sorrow are the same. The municipalities of Studenicani and Cair will meet today and will provide support to the families around the funeral, says Jonuzi.
