The Chief Commissioner for Fire Safety and Protection of the Population in the Bulgarian Ministry of Interior Nikolay Nikolov told Nova TV that the condition of the survivors in the traffic accident on the highway "Struma" is stable. They are being treated at Pirogov Hospital in Sofia.

According to the MIA correspondent from Sofia, the Bulgarian authorities are trying to get a picture of the accident from the statements of the survivors, which would help the investigating authorities to determine the causes.

The area of the accident has been cut off for three hours and no one can get close to the scene of the tragedy, Bulgarian media and their teams report.

A Macedonian diplomat from the embassy in Sofia has already arrived at Pirogov Hospital, who, as Nova TV reported, could not confirm the number of admitted citizens of Northern Macedonia, but according to him, one Bulgarian citizen was among the dead.

A 17-year-old girl and six adults were admitted to the Pirogov Hospital in Sofia after the bus accident on the Struma highway, Dr. Maja Argirova from the Burn Clinic at the medical institution told BTA. There is no danger to their lives.

The girl and five of the adults are at the Burn Clinic, and one has been referred to the Traumatology Clinic. All of them undergo additional examinations at the hospital.

The accident happened on the highway Struma shortly after 02.00, near the village Bosnek. The bus with Macedonian license plates was traveling in the direction of the Republic of Northern Macedonia. The vehicle entered Bulgaria from Turkey. Shortly after midnight, the bus stopped at a gas station near Sofia, after which it continued. The accident happened an hour later.

So far, there is no confirmation whether the bus first went off the road, and then caught fire or a fire broke out in the vehicle first. According to initial information, the reason why people could not be saved is that the bus overturned.
