VIDEO, Sainz: I saw the fire, no one came faster to help me
The Ferrari driver was surprised that when his car caught fire during the Austrian Grand Prix, the marshals were slow to react and he had to be rescued from the side without help
Carlos Sainz said he was "a bit surprised" marshals didn't come to his aid sooner after his Ferrari caught fire at last weekend's Austrian GP.
Describing the reaction of track marshals as "pretty weird", Sainz revealed he was forced to jump out of his car as it rolled backwards across the track. In an interview, the Ferrari driver said:
– It was very strange. I saw the fire in the rearview mirror and was a little surprised that no one came to help me sooner. I pressed the brake, but as soon as I tried to jump, I didn't want to leave the car completely out of control and roll backwards - said Sainz.
Marshal puts down fire extinguisher and walks away! While the F1 Ferrari is burning and rolling and #CarlosSainz is still in the car! He needed help, but the marshals did nothing or came very late. #AustrianGP #RedBullRing pic.twitter.com/epQbvoE8pO
