The YouTube video platform is unavailable in Russia, thousands of users reported on August 8.

Most of the user complaints were recorded from Moscow, St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg published by the Downdetector site.

Russian lawmaker Alexander Hinstein said two weeks ago that in a few days the upload speed of YouTube videos in Russia would be reduced by 70 percent, saying that YouTube was "violating and ignoring the law with impunity."

In early July, YouTube blocked the channels of several Russian singers and artists because of their support for Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
