VIDEO | Petkovski: The parties lost, the citizens won in these local elections

Tito Petkovski, NSDP / Morning briefing

Tito Petkovski, a longtime participant on the political scene in Macedonia, assesses the success of the ruling coalition that ran together in the local elections for today's morning briefing as "semi-successful".

- The parties lost, the citizens won in these local elections, says Petkovski. For people who have been following things for a long time, this result is not so surprising. Given everything that has happened in the last four years, the result is not so bad. I believe a turnaround can happen. Look at the structure of the corps - 50 thousand are for the independents, they are just as invalid, and if you take that VMRO-DPMNE took only 288 thousand votes at the lowest turnout in history. The citizens said with this, if you continue like this, you will be punished by both the position and the opposition. In my opinion, it is not good to stay at home and punish the central government when we have local elections, Zaev and Mickoski will not be mayors or councilors. Here, the work went beyond the local interests of the citizens, Petkovski commented.

Citizens are tired of having elections every year. Zaev announced his resignation if Shilegov does not win for mayor.

- Let the Prime Minister forgive me, but this is an irresponsible statement. The government was formed a year ago, its term lasts another four years. And Shilegov's position is not related to the position of the Government. With a parliamentary campaign, by imposing the achievements of the Government, by recomposing the majority, it all defocuses the citizens from the local elections, says Petkovski.

All parties did badly due to the low turnout, SDSM the most, and DUI the most. Is the problem internal party?

- The supporters and members of SDSM did not go to the polls the most. If you look at what the government did in the first year, the government always solves the unpleasant issues in the first year, and it leaves a bad impression on the people. "Some policies in the field of education, what happened to Maksim Dimitrievski and the like, demotivated people," Petkovski told Utrinski briefing.

This is not the first time the EU has overthrown governments in the Balkans. Gruevski ruled for ten years without resolving the Greek dispute. Mickoski said in an interview with the Bulgarian media this weekend that he would not resign from the Macedonian positions.

-Populism and demagoguery. Due to Bulgaria and its relations with the citizens, the interest in the Union dropped. The international community is doing great damage to Macedonia by not integrating it. Bulgaria is a toy in the hands of the Union. We know the main reason, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark do not want enlargement, comments Tito Petkovski for the Morning Briefing.
