VIDEO | Paris: Heavy rains flooded streets and metro stations and disrupted traffic
After several weeks of heat wave, torrential rain fell in Paris this afternoon, causing multiple floods in the streets and metro stations. According to the Meteo Channel, 10 to 40 mm of rain fell in less than an hour, which is equivalent to two to three weeks of rainfall, the MIA correspondent reported.
In the capital's 15th arrondissement, Ballard station users had to wade through water to access the platforms as water flooded the station.
Shortly after 18:00 p.m., several stations subsequently closed access due to bad weather.
Despite the closed stations, "traffic is normal", said the spokesperson of RATP. Traffic on the other hand was "down on the entire Orlyval line" which maintains the connection between the Antony station on the RER B and Orly airport.
Traffic on the streets was affected, due to several flooded boulevards, numerous pictures published on social networks show. New York Avenue was also under water, according to netizens.
SNCF also noticed a slowdown in traffic. On line J of Transilienne, between Paris Saint-Lazare and Hermont-Aubon, "weather conditions are disrupting traffic," the state railway's Twitter account said.
