VIDEO: Reaching a speed of 255,5 km/h, the Frenchman Simon Billy broke the world record in speed skiing
On the Var track in the Alps, the Frenchman achieved unprecedented speed and broke the record of the Italian Origone (254.958 km/h).
French skier Simon Billy broke the world record in speed skiing by reaching a speed of 255,5 kilometers per hour.
Billy achieved the record at a competition in Var, in the French Alps. The previous record was held by the Italian Ivan Origone (254.958 km/h).
The Chabrier trail is located at 2.715 meters above sea level, on a slope that reaches almost vertical steepness in places.
A Frenchman (36) thus broke the record set in 2016 by the Italian Ivan Origone, who "flew" at 254.958 km/h.

Among the previous holders of this world record is Philip Billy, Simon's father, who in 1997 reached 243.902 km/h.
Billy has been training since he was a child on the Chabrier track, the only one in the world recognized for achieving speed records in skiing. Skiers can reach 200 kilometers per hour in less than 6 seconds.
Simon Billie won his second speed skiing world championship title with this.
