There is currently no technology on Earth that could stop a large asteroid from hitting our planet, a simulation conducted by a leading space agency has shown.

The exercise led by the American NASA concluded that the catastrophe would be inevitable, even if they have six months to prepare.

The hypothetical scenario of the coup, which took place during a United Nations planetary defense conference, showed that all governments were unprepared for this kind of catastrophe.

"If we were to face such a scenario in real life, we would not be able to launch any aircraft in such a short time with the current capabilities." said the participants of the conference, reports Independent.

The only response to such an event would be to evacuate the endangered area before the asteroid hits. However, according to the simulation, the impact zone hit large parts of North Africa and Europe.

The American billionaire, the owner of the company "Space X", Elon Musk, said that this lack of solutions is "one of the main reasons why we need bigger and more advanced rockets".

NASA is already working on technologies to move asteroids out of their way and plans to launch the first test mission of its DART system later this year, which will arrive on the asteroid Dimorphos in the fall of 2022. The US agency is currently tracking about 25.000 space bodies close to Earth, and adds about 30 new ones to the list each week.
