VIDEO | A man at the New Orleans airport opened the emergency door and climbed onto the wing of the plane
A man on a Southwest Airlines flight opened the emergency door and climbed onto the wing of the plane Sunday while the plane was at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport. According to police, the 38-year-old man opened the emergency exit door to reach the wing of the plane. The plane was immobile at the time, and the staff managed to stop the passenger in question and detain him until the authorities arrived.
Zed Webster, who was on the plane that day, told CNN that it appeared to him that two passengers were arguing and that it was thought that a physical altercation would occur. He then took out his mobile phone and started recording the incident. As soon as he started filming, the passenger opened the emergency door and jumped out. "I was terrified," Webster said.
Police said the 38-year-old man was acting rather incoherently. He was taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation because officials believe it may be a mental health issue. "There are no indications that the man left anything on the plane, nor was a weapon found on him," the police said, adding that the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
