VIDEO | Mariah Carey received a $ 20 million lawsuit for her biggest hit
The legendary singer Mariah Carey faces a $ 20 million lawsuit because of its 1994 hit "All I Want For Christmas Is You" allegedly infringed copyright.
In the lawsuit filed by the songwriter Andy Stone, along with the famous American singer, the co-author of her hit is also accused Walter Afansiev.
The song was released by Kerry in 1994 as part of her album Merry Christmas and has since been considered one of the biggest holiday hits.
In legal documents filed with the U.S. District Court in Louisiana, Stone claims that he co-wrote the song in 1989 and never gave permission to use it.
The documents state that Kerry and her associates "knowingly and intentionally participated in the campaign" in violation of Stone's copyright to the song. It added that the defendants had also committed "acts of unjust enrichment by unauthorized appropriation of the plaintiff's work".
Stone is seeking $ 20 million in damages.
"Merry Christmas" was released on "Columbia Record" on November 1, 1994. It is the best-selling American Christmas album of all time, selling over 15 million copies worldwide.
