VIDEO: Macron thanked Merkel for the cooperation

The Social Democrat As of today, Olaf Scholz is officially the new Chancellor of Germany. Angela Merkel is retiring from politics after 16 years, and in a video dedicated to her by French President Emmanuel Macron, she thanked her for everything she has done to move Europe forward.

"Thank you, dear Angela, for never forgetting the lessons of history, for doing so much for us, with us, to move Europe forward," Macron wrote in a Twitter post with the video.

The video shows excerpts from recording joint statements and meetings in which the two laugh, hug and talk. It also includes excerpts from Macron's speech to Merkel during her farewell visit to Bonn just over a month ago. In the parts of the speech that are part of the video farewell, the French president tells the former chancellor that she has learned many things and accepted him as a young, temperamental president.
