Vasil Jovanov's mother, through tears, expressed her deepest condolences to the family of Frosina Kulakova, who was killed by her son on "Partizanska" at a pedestrian crossing, at a press conference today.

-I want to express my deepest, most sincere, deepest maternal condolences, especially to Frosina's mother. Only a mother can understand how the other mother feels. The loss is irreparable and irreparable. As the husband said, two homes were darkened that night. The burden of this situation will remain with us for the rest of our lives, on our entire family. I think that only someone who has a child should be able to put themselves in our shoes for a moment and imagine how terrible it is, how painful it is and what a burden this is. Every day we pray to God that Frosina's family will have the strength to endure this loss and the humility to accept it. As a mother, I am at the disposal of the other mother if I can help in any way in this extremely difficult period. I do not have enough words to express the pain and regret for everything that is happening. Vasil, as the case may be, is our only child. We had another who died at 23 hours of age, said Ana Jovanova, mother of the suspect Vasil. 

Asked about the judge who sentenced Vasil Jovanov to a correctional facility rather than prison, she said:

"I saw the judge for the first time in my life within the courtroom itself during the hearings and I don't know if she was the wife of my colleague. She may be the wife of a former colleague, but I was not aware of that. God is my witness," said Jovanova.

Vasil Jovanov's father, Zoran Jovanov, who is an officer in the ARM, said that his son stole the vehicle that was in his name.

-After the verdict, Vasil, although he had previously had difficulty quitting smoking marijuana and did not have other narcotics, really changed after the verdict. As if something touched him, he stopped smoking cigarettes, focused on the gym. He really changed his views, found a psychologist and visited him. He found a spiritual guide at "St. Jovan Bigorski", we were there. The verdict achieved results for Vasil. I don't know if it was the verdict, or the detention, or the entire procedure, but he changed, said father Zoran Jovanov.

He admitted that he had taken protectionist measures towards his son.

-I have not taken such measures for my son, nor have I thought about it, nor have I had the power to do such a thing. Nor do I believe in impunity. I have been saluting the Macedonian flag every morning for 24 years. We take all kinds of measures, disciplinary, misdemeanor, as part of our work. I am absolutely a person who believes in punishment and responsibility, said Zoran Jovanov.

Vasil's mother added that when Vasil was fined for the first traffic accident, it disappointed her. At that time, there was material damage without injury.

"We were sincerely disappointed because we hoped it would be a good lesson for him. We sincerely wished there were other repercussions to be felt as a consequence for what he did. We were even disappointed, let alone intervene," said Jovanova.

Vasil's father, Zoran Jovanov, thought that after the first car accident, his son would be banned from taking the exam.

-We thought there would be some kind of ban on taking the test because Vasil had taken classes and had taken the theoretical test, but failed at the training ground. We thought he would be banned from taking the test because he failed at the training ground. This expectation of mine was naive because I had no previous contact with the law and no experience of how the legal system works. I have neither asked, nor have I been in a position to ask, nor have I known anyone to whom I could have contacted? You definitely do not know the army system. A person with the functions I perform cannot have privileges, it simply cannot, those things are incompatible, said Zoran Jovanov.

The father claims that the car is in his name and that Vasil stole it.

-The car was purchased in 2016 out of necessity because my wife worked further away and needed it to travel to work. Legally it was in my name, de facto my wife used it. I did not let Vasil practice driving with me or his uncle until he was 18, believing that the best way to learn is to take lessons from the beginning. And he did not ask. When he finished the lessons with the instructor, when he went through that process, I assume he thought he knew how to drive. And he stole the car. He stole it, said Zoran Jovanov.

The family's lawyer, Sasho Dukovski, asked for justice in a courtroom and not on the street, and for the talion law not to be applied - "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth". He said that untruths were spread in the public in order to increase anger towards Vasil Jovanov, such as the speed of the vehicle, which could not possibly be 180 kilometers per hour, because Vasil turned onto "Partizanska" from a side street and crashed into Frosina 80 meters away. According to lawyer Dukovski, this is a distance that is not enough to develop a speed of 180 kilometers per hour, and the car manufacturer also confirmed that the maximum speed that the vehicle can develop in ideal conditions is 160 kilometers per hour on the highway.

The vehicle was handed over for forensic examination yesterday. Dukovski denied that Vasil fled the scene where he hit Frosina.

-He comes to the body and tries to help her, there is no escape. He expresses sincere remorse. As long as I am a lawyer, we will not try to reduce his psychophysical calculability. Vasil is healthy. It is not true that the judge of the previous procedure was changed and the public prosecutor did not arrive at the scene for 3 hours, but for 25 minutes. The traffic light is at 23:50 and the prosecutor at the scene came out 15 minutes after midnight. State Prosecutor Ljupco Kocevski came out of deep prosecutorial hibernation and claims that Vasil will be in custody until the end of the procedure. So who knows? Does he have an agreement or other powers? I would be happy if he were so zealous in dealing with the expert opinion from Germany for the modular hospital in Tetovo. And the judicial council announces that it will review the verdicts for Jovanov, but where is it to examine them for Zoran Milevski Kiceec who received 6 months and ran over a man with fatal consequences. "Or are we going to make Vasil's case a demonstration exercise?" Dukovski asked.
