VIDEO | Kusinikova: There are no processed cases in Macedonia where non-profit organizations have been used as an instrument for financing terrorism
Globally, the topic became relevant after the September 11 attacks in the United States. It was then reported that these attacks were funded by non-profit organizations. The level was then raised and all non-profit organizations were identified as vulnerable.
Meanwhile, international bodies have changed international standards. There has been pressure to control the operations of non-profit organizations… States now have an obligation to identify risks and direct activities in proportion to the limitations of these organizations.
That is why it is very important to strike a balance between the protection of national security and the freedom of citizens to associate in non-profit organizations.
There are no prosecuted cases in our country where non-profit organizations have been used as an instrument for financing terrorism.
The risk of exposure to the influence of non-profit organizations by terrorist organizations in our country is low to medium. The number of suspicious transactions is small. We want to strengthen the resistance of non-profit organizations to any influences.
Non-profit organizations are required by law to disclose transaction transfers and the financing of their activities, says Nikica Kusinikova, Executive Director of "Konekt" for the Morning Briefing.
