Four people were killed and 38 were injured in weather disasters in Istanbul, the Anatolia news agency reported.
The governor's office in Istanbul, citing data from the Emergency Cabinet (AFAD), said that four people were killed, including a foreign national.
Material damage was also caused. The wind uprooted trees, and at least three trucks overturned.
Three people are in hospital in critical condition, the Turkish Disaster Management Agency (AFAD) said.
In the unprecedented storm, 33 roofs were damaged, 192 trees were uprooted, 52 traffic lights were pushed, and dozens of cars and trucks were damaged.
Among the dead is a mother who went out with her child and was covered by a roof structure. The woman died after trying to protect the child from the roof, and the child was taken out and taken to hospital. In another accident, a man died while trying to tighten the roof of his house.
The Bosphorus, the narrow waterway that divides the city, is closed to maritime traffic and ferry services have been canceled.
At least nine Turkish Airlines flights have been diverted to Ankara and Izmir, an airline spokesman said.
Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu expressed his condolences to the victims and called on the city's residents to be careful, as winds blow up to 130km / h.
