VIDEO | Kanye West surprised everyone at the BET Awards with his presence: He jokes with Kim in his speech
Kanye West appeared on stage at the end of the BET Awards on June 26 to pay tribute to Didi with the Lifetime Achievement Award. True to his character, Kanye covered his face with a mask and hood as he talked about how Didi had inspired him throughout his career. At one point he even talked about the legendary rapper full of emotions.
During his long speech, Kanye even referred to his divorce from Kim Kardashian. "I go to Didi for advice to this day," Kanye said. "He inspires a lot of my choices. So many of my life choices. My wife's choice. And here we are - thank you for that, Puff. Kanye laughed after making the joke and the audience cracked. Twitter was also immediately flooded with fans who voiced their reactions.

Aside from a small reference to Kim, Kanye spent most of his time on the BET Awards stage to thank Didi for his inspiration. "This man has survived many things and broken many doors so that we can be here today," Kanye admitted. "He broke down so many doors for classicism, taste, culture, cunning. "Puff, if I never told you I love you."

Kanye also remembers getting Didi's old mixtapes and listening to them at his mother's house, hoping to one day become Puff. "This is my favorite artist," Kanye said. "You see what I'm saying? Favorite artist. Everything. No specific production. Back then, there were so many rules for hip hop and he broke them all. And he knocked down all the doors. And we understood the agreements in a way that many of us still do not understand. "He understands money in a way that many of us still do not understand."

Kim and Kanye actually attended Didi's 50th birthday party together in 2019, but their marriage has broken down ever since. Kim filed for divorce in February 2021, and the two were declared "legal singles" by a judge in March 2022. The specifics of their divorce decision have not yet been reached.
