The proposal for the dismissal of Djuric was submitted by 30 councilors of the Novi Sad opposition because they believe that he too should bear political and moral responsibility for the fall of the canopy of the Railway Station in Novi Sad, when 15 people died and two were seriously injured.
The beginning of the session was marked by mutual accusations between the government and the opposition.
- The tragedy at the railway station is the result of the disastrous management of the city, where construction is done without permits or permits are issued without institutions. Instead of understanding the request of the citizens, Milan Djuric assessed the protests as vandalism. He showed deep disrespect for the citizens. The government led by SNS headed by Djuric responded to the peaceful protests by sending beaters who deliberately provoked the citizens. High school students are attacked, and professors are exposed to mobbing, said Stevan Babic, board member of "Kreni-promeni".
He added that it is scandalous that the man appointed by the City Hall as director of a public company is labeled as a member of a criminal cartel for the sale of cocaine.
At the end of the discussion, the mayor of Novi Sad, Milan Djuric, addressed those present in the hall of the City Hall.

- I would like to draw attention to what is happening while we are debating here, and we have announced it – your intention is to forcefully enter the City Hall, and then take power by force. You cannot come to power as you thought. The citizens did not deserve this, nor did those who elected us and you. But you only know the way of the street. And I still maintain that power can only be obtained through elections, Djuric said.
25 councilors voted for Djuric's dismissal, and 48 were against. The ruling majority welcomed the decision with applause. In the middle of the voting, there was pushing and a tense atmosphere.
During the debate, citizens and activists tried to enter the town hall, when there was a push and a clash with strong police forces. The media reports that at least one person was injured and then detained by the police.
Citizens gathered in front of the City Hall at the exact moment of the fall of the canopy at 11:52, blocked the street in front of the meeting and with their deafening noise prevented the councilor's discussion
