At least five people were killed after hundreds of trees fell in and around San Francisco during a storm that hit northern California on Wednesday. Two people died in their vehicles and one after a tree fell on his tent.

Heavy rain and wind have been causing problems in Northern California since Tuesday, with 92.000 homes without power and 14.000 people ordered to evacuate.

50.000 people were warned to be on standby to move to higher altitude.

This is already the 12th storm to hit California since December last year, and more than 20 deaths have been recorded during that period.
