VIDEO: Iran's football players refused to sing the national anthem in protest
An unforgettable scene was seen today on World Cup in Qatar on the eve of the meeting between England and Iran.
Iran's football players and fans have decided to boycott their country's national anthem in solidarity with the protests in their country. Protests have been raging in Iran for months, which began after 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, arrested by the "morality police", died while in custody, and relatives accused her of being beaten.
Then followed fierce protests in the streets, which in the meantime turned into a strong outburst of popular anger against the Islamist government in the country. So far, more than 500 people have died, and a huge number of citizens have been arrested or beaten by the Sharia police.
Therefore, the Iranian national anthem was accompanied by numerous whistles today, and there were also many messages in support of women in the stands.
Iran's soccer team just refused to sing their national anthem.
Maybe this will help the folks who attack those who kneeled for us see standing up to injustice in your own country is in fact a form of patriotism. @MarshaBlackburn pic.twitter.com/iQ34sMS8uy
