VIDEO | The state must consult people with disabilities to make the right decisions

Elena Kocoska, Polio plus / Morning briefing

Today is December 3, International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

- The impression is that this problem is talked about only on this day, and the reason for that is that the politicians did not raise this issue at a higher level, as a priority. We signed it in 2006 and in 2011 we ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. But very little action has been taken since then to implement the convention, he said Elena Kocoska from "Polio Plus".

She says that on the issue of accessibility of people with physical disabilities as a country we have a serious problem, because the ramp is only part of accessibility. The problem is that no one is held accountable for failing to implement and prevent accessibility. Kocoska proposes that the new mayors include this issue in their budgets.

Another problem is employment of persons with physical disabilities for which the government introduced special measures to subsidize employers, but it turned out that there were very frequent abuses by employers.
