VIDEO POLL: World No Tobacco Day - what citizens say about smoking

Every year on May 31, the World Health Organization (WHO) and partners commemorate it world no tobacco day highlighting the health risks associated with tobacco use and promoting effective policies to reduce tobacco use.
World No Tobacco Day has been celebrated since 1987. Statistics show that one smoked cigarette shortens life by 12 minutes. Every year about 8 million people die as a result of tobacco use.
– 7 million from direct use, and about 1.2 million as a result of passive exposure to tobacco products
– Passive smoking – exposure to the smoke or vapor of any tobacco product.
- 9 out of 10 smokers started smoking before the age of 18.
- The use of tobacco among youth reduces the function and development of the lungs, which leads to the possibility of chronic diseases.
In Macedonia, on average, 20 cigarettes are smoked per day, and men are the most numerous smokers.
Half of the population in Macedonia smokes cigarettes and consumes tobacco products, show the results of studies on behavioral and cultural aspects of the use and cessation of tobacco.
