VIDEO | Andonović: Restoring dialogue between Moscow and Washington is the only hope for ending the war in Ukraine

US President Donald Trump has threatened Russia and “other countries involved” with taxes, tariffs and sanctions if a deal to end the war in Ukraine is not reached soon. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says the conflict in Ukraine should be resolved on the basis of legally binding agreements that should contain a mechanism to ensure they are not violated.

It is not yet known when the meeting or phone call between the American and Russian presidents will take place. However, Donald Trump is not wasting any time.

He called on Russia to "make a deal" to end the war in Ukraine, promising to tighten sanctions and tariffs against Moscow otherwise.

"Let's end this war, which would never have started if I were president! We can do it the easy way or the hard way - and the easy way is always better. It's time to make a deal! It's only going to get worse," Trump said on his social media account theTruth.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov emphasizes that the conflict in Ukraine should be resolved on the basis of reliable legal guarantees and agreements that must contain a mechanism to ensure that they are not violated.

However, on the way to an agreement, both sides are considering a new military potential.

President Volodymyr Zelensky warns at the World Economic Forum in Davos that Ukraine needs about a million soldiers to counter an army of about a million and a half Russian soldiers.

The New York Times reports, citing a senior US Defense Department official, that North Korea will send a new group of troops to war against Ukraine in the next two months.

For now, it is certain that the war will continue, and even if an agreement is reached and the borders are fully opened, 21 percent of Ukrainians said they would like to emigrate. The reason, they say, is the lack of opportunities for development and the consequences of the war.

The German Defense Minister has warned of a possible threat of a Russian attack on NATO member states by 2029 or 2030.

According to him, Russia will likely increase its armed forces to 1,5 million soldiers by 2026.

– Given the growth of the Russian army, there is a theoretical possibility that Russia will try to attack NATO countries in 2029-2030. “Therefore, it is particularly important to ensure the defense capabilities of the Alliance by that time,” Pistorius told Lithuanian media.

"The military industry there is developing significantly, they are producing a large number of tanks and aircraft, which means that the Russian armed forces are growing significantly," Pistorius warned.

He noted that military experts believe that "Putin could reorganize his armed forces by 2029/2030 to create appropriate conditions for a possible theoretical attack on other countries," including NATO countries.
