Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky replaced Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov. The reason for this change, as stated, is the corruption scandal in this ministry, because of which Reznikov, who is still loyal to Zelenski's government, will be transferred to another job in the government, most likely to the position of a new minister of justice.

According to the media in Kyiv, the 37-year-old former director of the military intelligence agency Kyrylo Budanov is coming in his place. With the rank of major general, Budanov has been in charge of military intelligence since August 2020.

Reznikov helped secure Western weapons to aid Ukrainian forces, and his removal as defense minister would be the most significant change in government among the many resignations and sackings since a corruption scandal late last month and Zelensky's promise that Ukraine would meet Western standards. for honest governance.

The scandal consisted of food contracts with very high prices. Due to the public outcry, one of Reznikov's deputy ministers was dismissed, while two other senior officials also left their posts.

Many consider Reznikov's removal to be the biggest shock to Zelensky's military government since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24 last year.

A significant problem in Ukraine's security apparatus is the recent helicopter crash in which the Ukrainian Minister of Internal Affairs Denis Monastyrsky died. His predecessor in this key ministerial post, former Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, was detained last week by members of the security service as part of an investigation into the purchase of Airbus helicopters.

In conditions when Ukraine is in a total war, for which it receives huge foreign aid, Zelensky's government is facing serious corruption scandals.

Unlike the beginning of the war almost a year ago when Ukrainian politicians, at least publicly, demonstrated harmony against the common Russian enemy, speculations are getting louder that not everyone in Kyiv sees the Ukrainian struggle through Zelensky's eyes. Many speculate that the current head of the Ukrainian General Staff, General Zalozhny, does not agree either with the statements or with Zelensky's idealization of the final end and counteroffensive of Ukraine.

Speculations are getting louder that it is Zalozhni who could be Zelenski's replacement in the future. Zalogny, who proved to be a good commander of the Ukrainian army in dealing with the powerful Russian military machinery, could, behind the eyes of the world public, finally enter into some kind of negotiations and achieve a truce with Russia. Of course, this is all in the realm of speculation.

What has been confirmed so far is that the former head of Ukrainian military intelligence, the 37-year-old former director of the military intelligence agency Kyrylo Budanov, with the rank of major general, will head the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.

It is known that, unlike the skeptical Ukrainian leadership, the day before the start of the Russian attack, he warned that Russia would launch a military invasion and try to conquer Kyiv, and then start bloody battles for the conquest of Donbass.

His good intelligence assessments are probably the main reason why he was put in this position, and especially his latest assessment that Crimea could soon be re-conquered by Ukraine.
