VIDEO | Analysis: There is little chance that reducing margins will dramatically make food cheaper

The government is scheduled to adopt a decision today at a session on a 10 percent limit on margins in retail and wholesale trade. The decision, according to announcements, will be valid until April 30 and will cover over 100 product groups.

– In addition to basic food products, the decision will also include hygiene products, baby food and non-food products that have a very high margin, and are part of the basic needs of citizens. The Prime Minister said that this measure will lead to a dramatic reduction in the prices of some products, which I would very much like to see happen, but I doubt that it will be so. Traders have shown so far that they have a greater number of mechanisms to cope with such situations and ensure the desired profit, and it may happen that some products become more expensive and then their margin is limited – says Sloboden Pechat journalist Srđan Ivanović.
