VIDEO | Analysis: Bozinovska's statement will be the cause of a new historic dispute with Bulgaria

The Minister of Energy, Sanja Bozinovska, first claimed that she does not have Bulgarian citizenship, and then her office announced that she applied for the citizenship of the eastern neighbor for economic reasons. A controversial point in the whole matter is that she signed the application for citizenship in which she stated that she, as well as her parents, have Bulgarian self-awareness - says the journalist of Sloboden Pechat, Srdjan Ivanovic.

– Unlike a huge number of other countries, when you submit documents for Bulgarian citizenship, one of the conditions is a declaration of Bulgarian self-awareness, both for you and for your parents. The BGNES agency published a copy of Minister Božinovska's application, in which she declares herself Bulgarian, but claims that her father, Blažo, and mother, Violeta, are Bulgarians. It is worth noting that she submitted documents in 2004, when Bulgaria was not a member of the EU, so the claim that she took out a passport for economic reasons is not very convincing. The damage is great because in the future her statement about Bulgarian roots, as well as the statements of 120.000 Macedonians with Bulgarian passports, will represent historical material and the subject of a new dispute about the history between the two countries - says Ivanovic.
