VIDEO: Americans shocked, police officer killed a person with a disability in Arizona
A police officer from the American city of Tucson in Arizona killed a man in a wheelchair by shooting him nine times, and the police department immediately prepared him for dismissal. reports the New York Times.
Richard Lee Richards, 61, was in his motorized wheelchair Monday night as he walked toward the entrance to Lus Supermarket in Tucson when a police officer with a rehearsal gun appeared behind him.
Moments later, a Walmart employee who shares space with the Lucy market warned police that they saw Richards leave the market with a toolbox but did not pay for them, police said.
Officers and Officer Ryan Remington followed Richards through the parking lot to. Richards at one point waved a knife at the employee, police added.
"Do not enter the store, sir," shouted Remington as Richards walked toward Lucy Market, and at that moment Officer Stephanie Taylor arrived with a gun pulled out.
At that moment, without warning, Remington approached Richards from behind and fired nine bullets at the victim from a short distance. Richards was shot in the back and died on the spot, police added.
On Tuesday, Tucson Police Chief Chris Magnus told reporters that the police administration had begun firing on Remington, adding that prosecutors were investigating the incident.
To be clear, I'm deeply concerned about the actions of Officer Remington. "His use of deadly force in this case is a clear violation of the law and directly contradicts several aspects of our weapons training," Magnus said.
