LIVE: Awarding of regional awards for investigative journalism, Miroslava Burns from "Sloboden Pechat" is among the winners
The regional awards for investigative journalism for the Western Balkans and Turkey, organized by the European Union, will be awarded late this afternoon in Tirana, within the Media Conference for the Western Balkans.
Among the award winners this year are six journalists from Macedonia, including the journalist of "Sloboden Pechat", Miroslava Burns, about the story with the woman in labor Yaldz Veaposka, who went to the Struga hospital to give birth by caesarean section, and the doctors mistakenly removed her healthy organs: the uterus, ovaries and one kidney.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for 18:00 and it, like all other content from the media conference in Tirana, can be streamed live:
The EU Award for Investigative Journalism was established in 2015, with the aim of promoting outstanding achievements and supporting investigative journalists to financially support their labor-intensive work in the deteriorating conditions of the media economy globally and especially in the region. By rewarding the best achievements, the award also helps to improve the visibility of quality journalism in the Western Balkans and Turkey and encourages the young generation of investigative journalists. Investigative stories dealing with issues such as the abuse of power and fundamental rights, corruption and organized crime have been in focus since the award's inception.
